The 85th anniversary of the State Forests National Forest Holding

Regardless of many historical turns and changes, the State Forests National Forest Holding has been successfully functioning till the present day. Its main goals are to protect, utilize, and shape Poland’s forests that cover around 7.5 million hectares. The experienced and professional foresters guarantee that the next generations of Poles will use all the benefits which forests provide today, to a no lesser degree.

Although the founding of the State Forests National Forest Holding is assumed to have taken place in 1924, the legal and economic model of Polish forestry was developed a few years later, in 1930s. Adam Loret was the author of this model and at the same time the first Director General of the State Forests NFH. In his vision of forest management, he emphasized that forests are not only the source of raw wood, but also perform many other functions. He then added:

Only the State, the owner, is able to protect, through rational management of forests, all economic, natural and cultural benefits which forests provide to the country. It is the State whose existence is not measured by the length of human life, but which was created to take care of the present and future well-being of the nation and the country.

The 85th anniversary of the State Forests NFH coincides with the 70th anniversary of World War II and, most probable, with the 70th anniversary of Adams Loret’s death. On this occasion, on the 17th of June, his monument will be unveiled during the Forest Day celebrations. It will be followed by a nationwide meeting of foresters in the Chojnów Forest District.

The opening ceremony of the 85th jubilee celebrations will be held during the Earth Day Gala, organized on the 26th of June in Warsaw, Pole Mokotowskie Park which, traditionally, will be attended by the State Forests NFH. This year’s motto of this ecological event will be” Protect climate with energy”.

• National Championship of Polish Foresters in Orienteering in Janow Lubelski
• International Forestry Fair in Rogów
• International Trade Fair of Animal Breeding and Rural Development in Poznan
• International Trade Fair for Environmental Protection in Poznan

The central jubilee celebrations in Warsaw will be accompanied by so-called open days, organized throughout the country by forest district offices and other organizational units of the State Forests National Forest Holding.
